PHIXER for Podcast Music Beds / intro sting stereo that collapses on phone mono
Music beds under voice can cancel on mono and phone speakers even when headphones sound fine. A podcast intro sting or underlay that feels rich in cans can thin when L+R fold under the host. Check mono and phone fold before you publish. Free PHIXER helps after polarity and timing. It is not a podcast host tool, not a loudness tool, and not a substitute for a true mono listen on a phone.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a podcast uploader, not a time-aligner, not a stereo widener, and not a substitute for polarity, delay matching, or a real mono / phone check. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on a podcast music bed or intro sting you must keep stereo through phone fold and host-player preview.
Three podcast bed / intro sting collapse modes
- Phone fold after publish / share. Listeners often preview on a phone or in a car Bluetooth path. A bed that sounds huge in headphones can soft-drop sting punch and low-end warmth when the phone sums. Habit: true L+R sum on the stereo bed bounce before you publish. Cousin guide: PHIXER for podcasters / remote dual-mic Riverside Zoom phone mono.
- Bed under speech on mono-ish host players. Many podcast apps and car players are mono-ish under speech. Mute wide FX briefly and re-check fold with the bed ducked under a spoken take, not only soloed in DAW headphones.
- YouTube / social cut-down cousin. Podcast clips and video versions share the same phone-speaker story as YouTube / social mono fold. Cousin guide: PHIXER for YouTube / Social Video Mono Fold and phone speaker phase.
- TV dialog / broadcast fold cousin. Dialog intelligibility vs music beds on mono TV is the same L+R habit. Cousin: PHIXER for TV dialog / broadcast fold.
- Radio / FM fold cousin. Broadcast mono sum before air. Cousin: PHIXER for Radio / FM Fold-Down.
- Mastering chain cousin. Where phase check sits after EQ/compression and before limiter. Cousin: Where PHIXER sits in a mastering chain.
Fast podcast bed / intro sting / phone mono audition (about 60 seconds)
- Sum L+R on the master / stereo bed bounce bus. Listen to sting punch, bed warmth, and side beds.
- A/B stereo vs mono. Note what disappears on fold: consonants in the sting, low-end warmth, wide pads under the host.
- Preview the bounce on a phone speaker with the bed ducked under a short spoken take. Mute wide FX / Haas / side-heavy verbs. Note which path thins the phone fold.
- Re-check fold after any limiter / loudness / encode / host upload pass, not only before cleanup. Habit: mono compatibility checklist.
Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)
1. True mono / L+R listen plus phone preview
Hard L+R sum on the master / stereo bed bounce. Then preview on a phone speaker under a short spoken take. Habit: mono compatibility checklist, Podcasters, and the 60-second audition above.
2. Polarity if a path flips
Dual mics, stacked beds, dual-path stings. Flip polarity when body returns. Guide: polarity vs phase.
3. Timing / delay-align before spectral tools
Nudge dual mics, stacked takes, and wide beds a few ms. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for timing.
4. Prefer correlated lows and center for phone fold
Keep sting punch, low end, and critical bed body correlated. Put width in sides that survive fold. Related: Podcasters and YouTube mono.
5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights
If a podcast music bed or intro sting must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B. Watch the YouTube tutorial and the mono demo.
Podcast bed / intro sting path types
| Setup | Common mono failure | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Intro sting stereo bed | Punch and body soft-drop on phone | Hard mono bounce; phone speaker check |
| Bed under host speech | Warmth gone when ducked under voice | True L+R with bed under a spoken take |
| Wide pad / Haas under the sting | Swish or cancel on fold | Less width in lows; correlated center |
| Dual-path / stacked bed takes | Body gone when both play | Polarity then timing |
| Limiter / encode / host after mix | Fine in headphones, thin after publish | Re-check fold after limiter / encode / upload, not only before |
| Podcasters + YouTube mono cousin | Dual-mic / Zoom phone fold or YouTube social cut-down thins the same way | Podcasters · YouTube mono |
Podcasters and YouTube mono cousins (short version)
- Remote dual-mic / Riverside / Zoom phone mono and YouTube / social video phone-speaker fold share the same L+R habit as podcast music beds and intro stings before publish.
- Polarity and timing still come first. Spectral tools after residual L/R fights only.

When not to reach for PHIXER
- Wrong polarity on dual mics or stacked beds (flip polarity first).
- Obvious attack misalignment (nudge first).
- You only need a mono print, not a stereo bed that must survive phone fold.
- Podcast host / RSS / upload problems (wrong tool).
- Noise gate / denoise / speech-cleanup problems (wrong tool).
- Loudness, LUFS, or stream-encoder problems (wrong tool).
